The Plot: A New Green Space in Downtown Norfolk

MLL has made an exciting contribution to the heart of downtown Norfolk. At the corner of Main and Granby streets sits an unused lot surrounded by a chain link fence. Soon it will be transformed into a communal green space – dubbed "The Plot" – a park and plaza with benches, trees and pathways to neighboring local venues.

The Plot is envisioned as a community gathering place, featuring an amphitheater, outdoor basketball court, a place for vendors, and modern art made from shipping containers. As you stroll down Granby Street, you will notice three Maersk containers recently delivered to the site. Over the next few weeks, the containers will be repositioned into an artistic representation of current maritime trade, which will complement old timbers from the "Boathouse" symbolizing the beginnings of the Port of Norfolk.

MLL contributed to the purchase and delivery of the new containers. As our CEO John Reinhart wrote the volunteer committee who designed The Plot, "We are pleased to have a small role in what is going on in Norfolk. To you and the team working on the project, we wish you success! You are making a difference and bringing life to our city."
